Scope and responsibilities
- Set the software excellence strategy and KPIs for US and Latin American businesses within the global strategy, agreed them with business leaders and senior executives, and reported progress to senior leaders each quarter and cost savings to finance and business leaders.
- Ran assessment-led programs on software quality, reliability, security and regulatory compliance, from document reviews, stakeholder interviews and data analysis to a plan built with cross-functional leaders, results reported to business heads and a follow-up six to twelve months later.
- Led InnerSource adoption with US and Latin American businesses, brought engineering teams into the Software Craftsmanship program through change champions, and ran software due diligence on acquired businesses against ISO 13485, ISO 14971 and IEC 62304.
- I have supervised software competency experts throughout my Philips career in India and North America, delegating work, setting timelines, recommending hires and conducting annual performance reviews. I also helped run a wider Software Center of Excellence team spanning 6 nationalities and 12 locations.
- Raised the hiring bar for US and Latin American teams by mentoring leaders and architects on interviewing and interviewing for senior roles, and built software competency frameworks delivered through Philips University.
- As Software Competency Lead, led AI-enabled transformations for regulated engineering, including an AI-assisted traceability platform now in production in 14 businesses and a requirements agent that checks requirements against IEC 62304.
- Our Software Competency team became part of Innovation Engineering during a reorganization; my title, role and responsibilities remained unchanged.

I supervised software competency experts in North America, building on earlier supervisory experience in Philips India. I led the State of Software Craftsmanship report on 138 projects, ran the Back2Basics workshop for about 50 engineers and organized the US developer portal hackathon with the Software Excellence team. All three goals were rated Exceeds Expectations, and feedback from the businesses was 100% positive.

What I took from it
North America is where I learned to lead AI-enabled transformation in regulated software. Trust comes before tooling: listen to what a business needs, show a working result, then scale it, which is how the traceability platform went from one pilot to 14 businesses. In regulated work AI earns its place only when a person can see, check and own every decision it touches, so I surface the evidence for a person to judge before automating the judgment. Leading a global team taught me that my job is to make that standard easy for others to hold, not to hold it alone.
